Law of reciprocity

  • A maxim of altruism to govern behavior
  • Appears in most religions and cultures
  • Can be positive or negative

Golden Rule

Anglican theologians and preachers popularized the term "Golden Rule" to description the Law of Reciprocity in early 17th century Britain.

The most often heard versions of the Law of Reciprocity these days are;

  • Treat others as you expect others to treat you.
  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
  • Love thy neighbor as thyself

I thought it would be interesting to make a collection of the variety of Golden Rules cultures have crafted for themselves to ensure peaceful interactions within their own communities and with world travelers.  This is an ongoing interest so this page will grow in time.  Each thumbnail image represents a larger color book sized image  available with membership.
