The Roman version says Cupid was the son of Venus (goddess of love) and Mars (god of war). Cupid has the ability to compel people into Heavenly and Earthly love and desire and is often depicted with wings, a bow, and a quiver of arrows. In Greek mythology he was called "Eros".
